Preconditions for Enabling Advanced Calendar Synchronization (Recurring Events Syncing and Events Deduplication)

In the latest SmartCloud Connect update, if your are using Salesforce Lightning Experience, there is a limitation on sharing and auto-sharing of series of recurring events from Salesforce to MS Exchange/Office 365: series of recurring events created in Salesforce Lightning Experience, unlike individual events or events created in Salesforce Classic, cannot be shared in MS Exchange/Office 365 via SmartCloud Connect. At that, series of recurring events created in MS Exchange/Office 365 can be shared in Salesforce set to this configuration; however, they will be shared as Salesforce Classic format events. This way, series of events shared by SmartCloud Connect sync will be non-editable in Salesforce, unless you temporarily switch to Salesforce Classic or return to MS Outlook to edit them there.

To enable SmartCloud Connect to synchronize recurring calendar items in Salesforce or advanced events deduplication you need to ask your local Salesforce admin to request the Advanced calendaring feature to be activated for your Org. Please refer to this instruction to learn how to log a corresponding case with Salesforce Support. Once this feature is enabled for your org, all fields required for recurring events sync and advanced deduplication will be added to the Event object. Specifically, enabling the Advanced calendaring feature adds the following custom fields to Even objects:

  • The OriginalInstanceDateTime field used for syncing recurring calendar items
  • The ClientGuid field used for advanced events deduplication
  • The IsException field involved in event errors handling

Previously, these fields could be set up manually in Salesforce settings, now they are only available with this Salesforce feature enabled by Salesforce support.
